Eckhard Gerdes on writing: “I am primarily an auditory person. I listen. Thus many times what is of greatest importance to me as I am writing is the sound of the text: the rhythms of the sentences, assonance, alliteration, internal rhyme, homophones, mispronunciations—those are frequently what drive the text. Additionally, I am interested in the shapes of letters and words and sentences. I like the visual effect of certain combinations of letters and words, and that also informs my texts.”
