Hal J. Daniel III was an American poet, professor, and scholar at East Carolina University whose academic work included speech, language, anthropology, and fish bioacoustics research. His poetry books include Moksha, Animal Behavior, Six Voices, and Behind the Lectern: A Half Century of Verse from Higher Education. His career unusually joined scientific and academic research with a sustained practice as a poet.
