Lyn Lifshin (1942–2019) was one of the most prolific American poets of her generation and an important bridge between mainstream and independent literary publishing. She published scores of books and chapbooks, including Cold Comfort, Before It’s Light, Another Woman Who Looks Like Me, and Persephone. Her work appeared in Ploughshares, The American Scholar, Rolling Stone, and hundreds of small-press magazines. Her intense, intimate poetry often addressed sexuality, family, mothers and daughters, violence, memory, desire, and women’s lives.
